No officers died at Jan. 6 protest

In response to the letter to the editor of July 26 from John Morello, the heading is correct: "Facts of January 6 riot cannot be spun."

Unfortunately, this letter provided false information regarding the number of deaths. A line in his letter states: "Who knows how it will characterize the cops who died that day." The facts are that not one police officer died on January 6, 2021, and a simple internet search will prove my statement.

The only police officer connected to Jan. 6 incident died from two strokes suffered on Jan. 7 - one day later. Officer Brian Sicknick's death was ruled as "natural causes" by Dr. Francisco Diaz, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The report further stated that Officer Sicknick "did not suffer an allergic reaction to the chemical irritants dispensed by rioters, Diaz told The Washington Post, nor was there evidence of internal or external injuries."

Finally, the only person to die that day was U.S. Air Force veteran, Ashli Babbitt, who was shot by a Capitol police officer inside the Capitol building. Until now, the name of the officer who shot her has not been officially revealed.

Unfortunately, some people believe the first thing they hear about an incident without further research or an open mind. It's sad that these people continue to spread the misinformation.
