Americans deserve answers about Jan. 6

Reading the Opinion page of July 28, I'd like to chime in with an opinion of my own. As a person who has voted the Democrat ticket in every election since Bill Clinton won in 1992, I truly applaud the courage of Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinziger for standing up to House leader Kevin McCarthy, at peril to their own political careers - they, as most other Americans do, want to get to the bottom of what happened on Jan. 6.

I, for one, want the answers to every question the Daily Herald editors printed in the Our View column, as well as the answers to many questions that I personally have. Just one example - by obstructing the investigative efforts of Pelosi and the House Select Committee at every turn, what is Kevin McCarthy trying to hide? What foreknowledge did he have of the attack, or is he somehow complicit in the planning or funding of January 6th?

There is still so much that has not come to light about that day and I would like to see everyone who played a role, from Donald Trump, to the insurrectionists, to the Capitol and D.C. Metro police, to members of Congress, the Trump kids, Giuliani, Mo Brooks or anyone who was in the Trump camp that day, to be examined for their roles into the events leading up to the insurrection.

The investigation needs to be wide ranging and thorough and the people involved should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

The American people deserve no less.
