Slow down when driving through neighborhoods

Help, I live on a highway.

Actually, it just feels like I live on a highway. Actually, I live in a quiet subdivision in suburban Streamwood. But ever since the pandemic hit, my neighbors have been treating my street as a highway, driving as if the 25 mph speed limit really says 45 mph. It has actually become dangerous to cross the street.

So many people are speeding and blowing stop signs, all in the name of shaving 5 seconds off their drive to the main street. This morning I almost saw a truck hit a bicyclist. I have almost been hit twice, most recently by a neighbor pulling out from a side street without stopping.

This "highway" driving does not distinguish by sex or age - I have seen a variety of both speeding past me. School buses are also driving in excess of the speed limit, too fast for me to even get their number. I can watch out for the UPS, Amazon and FedEx trucks, but my next door neighbor in the Caravan? Really?

I think I speak for all the pedestrians, dog walkers, joggers and parents of children in my neighborhood when I implore you to "please slow down." No life is worth the time you think you are saving by driving that fast and that recklessly. Make our neighborhoods safe again and care about your neighbors.
