Endorsements: Bosshart, Bernas, Seyring for Schaumburg Township Library Board

Four solid candidates are running for three 4-year terms on the Schaumburg Township Library Board in the April 2 election.

Three of them are incumbents, all from Schaumburg: Julie Wroblewski Bosshart, an accountant first elected in 2011; Jillian Rose Bernas, a civically active international relations manager first elected in 2015; and retired schoolteacher Theresa "Terry" Seyring, also first elected in 2015.

Vying for one of their seats is academic librarian Emily Gilbert of Hoffman Estates.

We're impressed by all four, and it's comforting to know that no matter who is elected, the library will be well served.

Gilbert makes the case that if elected, she would be the only librarian to serve on the board, and certainly, that perspective would be helpful. Given how dominated the board is by Schaumburg residents, Gilbert's representation of Hoffman Estates would be a benefit too.

But it's hard to make the case that any of the incumbents warrants being voted out, although we concede a little back-of-the-mind concern about Bernas' apparent ambition to use the library board as a steppingstone to the Illinois legislature.

The library is run exceptionally well, with well-resourced branch facilities that reach out to Hanover Park and Hoffman Estates patrons.

Bosshart, Bernas and Seyring are knowledgeable, dedicated and effective. They've exercised good judgment and articulate a sound vision. We endorse them for re-election.

Gilbert, meanwhile, is qualified too. If she's not elected, we hope the board keeps her in mind for an appointment should a vacancy occur.
