Patriotism soared at band concert

The Wheaton Municipal Band's patriotic performance June 28 was astounding. I always enjoy these performances and proudly stand for my Marine Corps service salute.

This year, the band played a World Premier Performance of "Symphony No. 1: Heroes" by Onsby Rose. It was superb; it was awesome; it was stunning. I was mesmerized by the movement of the entire piece. Especially the fourth movement, "For the Fallen," brought me to tears, which I never expected. I am actually crying as I write this.

"For those who have fought for it, freedom is a flavor the protected will never know." We have so many heroes who have served our country ... some who never came back, some who came back forever wounded, some who came back seemingly OK, and all who gave part of their lives for all of us.

Thank you each and every veteran who helped all of us … especially my dad who will be 101 and served in Panama in World War II; my husband who served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam; my brother who served in Vietnam; my daughter who served in Saudi, Columbia. etc.; my son who served in Turkey, Hungary, Columbia and more; my friend Sam, a Purple Heart vet who continues to help every vet.

So many memories. You outdid yourselves. Wheaton Municipal Band. This was the best patriotic performance I've seen since I moved to Wheaton in 1971.
