Strong borders will protect our republic

For decades, politicians and their buddies have been saying they would "fix" the problem of illegal entry into the United States. Their efforts generally include allowing millions of illegal immigrants to remain in our country. But no concurrent border security enhancements to prevent this wholesale violation of our nations laws has ever been included.

So every election cycle, we put up with the same broken promises.

For once, we have a president who is trying to do something about it - and the wailing and hand wringing begins all over again by the open border advocates!

Defense of the republic is the most important job of our government. If we don't know who, and how many, people enter illegally, then how can we say some are not criminals or terrorists?

Let the guilt-tripping begin, so those of us who do not want to see another 9/11-type terrorists attack must be racists or anti-immigrant?

We know that the republic relies on immigration. We applaud our nation's place as a light in a world filled with corruption and violence. So to the political hacks who seek avoidance of solutions, your days as our employees are numbered.

Immigration must be legal and merit based. We must know who is walking into our country. No one in government has the right to suggest that security-conscious Americans are somehow the problem.

The blame game is over - for all his unusual behavior, President Donald Trump is the first elected official who is actually fulfilling promises made during his campaign.

To ignore the economic and security threats posed by illegal entry is tantamount to surrendering our sovereignty. Guests to our country are always welcome - just sign the guest register; and when you've finished your stay, have a safe trip home.
