Students' help is appreciated

As the senior warden of St. Charles Episcopal Church as well as a volunteer, I wish to acknowledge the service of the St. Charles East High School National Honor Society student volunteers.

For the past nine years, our parish has prepared and served our Free Spaghetti Dinner each month to the community. During that time, NHS students have volunteered their time to serve meals, wash dishes, and interact with our very diverse group of guests. They have always been hard working, polite and prompt. On many occasions, the church volunteers have served over 150 people during the two-hour window of the dinner. Not only do the students step up but they also step in. They see where assistance is needed during a busy time and they help without someone telling them to do so.

These young people are a credit to the National Honor Society, to their families, to their school and to our community. We are very grateful for their help in our mission to joyfully serve others. We also are grateful to Andrew Johnson, NHS Advisor, for his efforts in collaborating with us each month to secure our student volunteers. The Free Spaghetti Dinner volunteers look forward to having future NHS members join with us as we continue to serve our community.

All are invited to join us for dinner on the fourth Sunday of each month to see (and taste) the good that is done when we work together.
