McCain's absence is country's loss

If Sen. John McCain is dying, we will be seeing one of the last vertebrate Republicans left in the country, most having succumbed to the Trump plague.

I often don't agree with the senator, but never doubted his dedication, love of the country and his innate honesty and integrity. His is, and I pray will continue to be, a voice of reason and principle in the Senate and country that has been taken over by a cabal of mean-spirited, despicable egoists.

That he has been demeaned by a draft-dodging, lying coward without an iota of integrity, and that ethos has allowed others of the same ilk to be dismissive of Sen. McCain, is beyond my comprehension.

The only hope I see is for people to speak up about the demeaning of the country's national character and world image by the current group of hurray-for-me citizens and politicians.

I would further comment that the Trump "base" is aptly named. They appear, to me, and seem to happily epitomize the worst of our society.
