Stewardship, not excess

A letter published recently about Lisle taxes complained that Lisle residents are overtaxed, due mainly to School District 202, and should be rebated the "excess."

It left out some points which have been discussed in public meetings: 1) Lisle202 tax rates are lower than either nearby Naperville 203 or Indian Prairie 204, 2) this "excess" anticipates the planned construction of a badly needed elementary school to consolidate two aging 1950s-era buildings. This avoids the inevitable capital/maintenance costs of old facilities, reduces long-term administrative costs and, most importantly, gives Lisle students a state-of-the-art learning environment. This sounds more like good stewardship than "excess" taxation.
