The cost of our souls

Does anybody remember James Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart? Back then when their constituents discovered their high jinks, their constituents booted them from their pedestals. What happened between then and now? Today it seems that those same groups that would not tolerate moral turpitude seem to have not only embraced its chief practitioner but exalt in his every moral insult as long as their tax reduction comes through. Did they suddenly discover that Moses dropped and shattered one of the tablets on his way down the mountain? I thought we were better than that. Maybe not. I hope we didn't lose our souls on the way to be bank.
