Experience, character for Congress, Dist. 6

If there is one thing we have all learned, and learned well, it is that elections matter. Just as importantly, we have learned that a candidate's experience, character and record of public service are critical to the success of our democracy. Becky Anderson Wilkins, Democratic candidate for the 6th Congressional District, scores an A-plus on all counts.

Becky currently serves as an elected member of the Naperville City Council, where she has a record of working collaboratively with her fellow council members to advance progressive measures with regard to improving access to affordable housing, raising the minimum age for the purchase of tobacco, initiating support for recognition of our community's diversity and supporting efforts to preserve Naperville's architectural heritage.

Her lifetime of public service includes leadership roles on countless nonprofit boards, recognitions from area school districts, organizations and from statewide groups, including the Illinois State Board of Education. Becky, as a co-owner of Anderson's Bookshops in Naperville, Downers Grove and LaGrange, has distinguished herself as a businesswoman, as well, receiving numerous awards from both the local and statewide Chambers of Commerce, including being named Illinois Family Business of the Year in 2001.

Her service for two years as president of the American Booksellers Association gives her a national perspective on small business and the issues of greatest importance to our economy.

She's a reader and a thinker whose great "people skills" will allow her to work collaboratively with others to get the job done.

For her persistence, for her courage, for her compassion and empathy for others, and for the informed decision-maker she will be, I support Becky Anderson Wilkins for the 6th Congressional District. Please consider her for your vote in the upcoming Democratic primary election on March 20.
