Rallies weren't anti-gun

I was disappointed that Daily Herald editors chose the headline "Anger at anti-gun rallies in Florida" for the Feb. 18 cover story regarding rallies held after the tragic Parkland, Florida, school shooting. I watched live broadcasts of several rallies.

They were not "anti-gun." Rather, the protest speakers pushed for common-sense legislative action to address gun violence in schools, actions which have been proposed for years but always blocked. The common thread of the protest was "anti-NRA." After decades of senseless school shootings, the NRA's large campaign contributions on behalf of the for-profit gun industry continue to paralyze any legislation for common-sense regulation.

Will this public groundswell for action finally start to drain the gun-lobby swamp?
