Can't have it both ways

Mary Warren's recent letter caught my eye. Quite a few years ago, I was saying pretty much the same thing about another president, but was "straightened out" by a Democrat who responded to the letter I had written.

Then-President Clinton was basking in the booming economy of the 1990s, ready, willing and able to accept accolades from anyone for that surge in prosperity. Well, I had the temerity to suggest that perhaps we should give former President Reagan some credit. Well, a Democrat responded to that suggestion, saying that "sitting presidents get the credit for whatever happens on their watch."

I would suggest, then, that this sitting president gets the credit for our current booming economy … unless, of course, those wanting to give Obama credit for it would also give Reagan credit for what we experienced during the 1990s.

Can't have it both ways; it's one way or the other.
