Learn from history

Mr. Otto Valnoha of Fox Lake wrote a view that recommended that we move on from bringing up the history of Hitler and Nazi Germany. I found this ironic, as his family certainly suffered when the Germans occupied his country and he was imprisoned. While we certainly do not want to let this tragedy consume us, we need to remember and study this period of history so that it does not happen again. In addition to the Holocaust, approximately 60 million people lost their lives in World War II.

I recommend that readers visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Educational Center in Skokie or the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., to better educate themselves on the lessons from Nazi Germany so that we can prevent future holocausts. I have addressed the Woodland District 50 board and am hopeful that we will not have exercises like the one that recently took place where students were told to "Give Hitler A Country" to teach them about appeasement of Hitler leading up to World War II
