No wonder wealthy are fleeing
I was rather surprised that our Elgin city manager needs two new assistant city managers. If I read the Daily Herald correctly, they are to "rethink organizational structures to best meet the needs of our growing community while maximizing the value to Elgin residents."
When these two individuals retire at age 55 and factoring in a 3 percent annual increase, their combined annual salary could be approximately $488,000. Would their pensions then be up to 80 percent of their annual salary or a possible $390,000 per year, all at the taxpayers' dime?
Mr. City Manager, did you think about hiring consultants for whatever you need to "maximize the value"?
It looks like Elgin is following the ways of Chicago, the state of Illinois and our federal government. Is it any wonder wealthy individuals are fleeing the high tax demand of nonprofit governments.
