Time for open enrollment insanity
It's that time of year again when we are allowed to enroll in the health insurance insanity. I say insanity because the cost is insanely expensive. So much so that I can no longer afford major health insurance because I'm an individual … and we seem to be the ones persecuted.
Seriously, how did our health insurance costs become so incredibly expensive? My premiums are now 400 percent higher than they were eight years ago. I used to choose a high deductible of $2,500 to keep my premiums low. My deductible is now 600 percent higher. At that rate who in their right mind would buy insurance!
Have the costs of providing health care increased correspondingly? If they have it's news to me.
Think about some other basic goods and services that, had they increased by the same percentage would have generated universal condemnation and outrage from every citizen in the country. More importantly have incomes risen by the same percentages - not.
It seems our representative government has continually ignored this very basic premise, you can't spend more than you have no matter how much you want to for very long because if you do, that's when insanity conducts its open enrollment.
