We need leaders who will stand up to president

Thank you, Sen. Jeff Flake, for your column of Oct. 26 and for standing up to the narcissistic robber baron who is unfortunately our president. Like you, the words of Joseph Welch have many times echoed through the chambers of my mind since Donald Trump has become president.

Senator Flake, I consider myself a progressive independent; however, I am saddened that a voice with a true moral compass is intending to leave the Senate. We need people in Congress who are willing to stand up for truth, justice and the American Way. I believe the American Way is under attack by Mr. Trump and his cohorts. It also appears to be the conclusion of many world leaders. According to the Pew Research Center only Russia and Vietnam have a favorable impression of Mr. Trump.

It is my prayer that more conscience-driven Congress people will gather the fortitude and the will to accept the challenge of your book and reject the destructive politics of the present and return to principle. Thank you for your service and for speaking up for the American people. It is my hope that you will reconsider and run for the Senate in 2019. America needs you.
