Beholden to the NRA or afraid of it?

The U.S. has again beat its own record. Not in the Olympics or the Dow Jones, but in the number of dead in a mass shooting.

Every time these horrific acts occur they are followed by news conferences that include every level of government: federal, state and local. Not one person addresses the common denominator in these situations: guns.

The blood of these victims is on the hands of everyone of our elected officials. For whatever reason they choose to not protect the American people. Are they beholden to the NRA or afraid of them?

Not one of these gruesome events has prompted them to act on gun control. They have failed to pass stricter purchasing laws, minimum tracking of gun ownership, end open and concealed carry and end the sale of assault weapons and high capacity magazines. These sickening acts have even spurred some of the representatives elected by the American people to suggest that more guns are the answer.

Their failure to keep Americans safe is appalling. Even as one of their own returns to Congress they are planning a vote on legalizing silencers and armor piercing bullets.

We, as citizens of this country that has lost its way, must insist that our representatives keep the safety of Americans foremost in their minds as they cast their votes. We must question why they have not tried harder to maintain the safety of ourselves and our children.
