Gun money and politics

Kudos to the people who showed up to protest the Lake County GOP's auction of guns last Friday, where they were auctioning off - among other weapons - a semiautomatic like the one used to kill 58 people and wound almost 500 more in Las Vegas just two weeks earlier. I can understand that the dinner raffle was planned months ago so the timing was unfortunate, but what really shocked me is that the Lake County GOP is using money raised from a gun raffle to fund candidates' campaigns - basically profiting from the distribution of semi-automatic weapons.

The NRA contributes hundreds of thousands of dollars to GOP candidates across the country every year, but it's sad to realize that gun money is at work right here in Lake County. Semi-automatic weapons have no place in any civilized society, and the distribution of them and any other weapon by a political party is terrifying.
