Get facts straight on football protests

Regarding Jim Slusher's column "Kneeling, talking and the need to listen": First: Statistics do not support a "stream of killings of black people by police." It is the first job of the media to get the facts right. Something which the Herald has failed miserably in this area.

Second: The BLM fiasco began with the Ferguson, Missouri, case which was totally made up. A policeman was attacked and seriously injured by a person who got killed in the process. Unfortunately the media got all the facts wrong and added gasoline to the fire. By the time the actual story, got out, the media gave it a minor airing. Then we had the Baltimore fiasco where policemen were put on trial and were found not guilty. But of course that was not accepted.

Finally: I know of no employer outside of professional sports that allows employees to make political demonstration on company time, company property and in this case wearing the company logo. It reflects on the company and its sponsors. I have no objection to anyone doing this on their own time (though it is not uncommon for people being disciplined for doing things on their own time - ask Curt Schilling).

As an aside, in the Kerry Lester column on the opposite page regarding a canceled program on immigrants rights at the Arlington Heights library, let me join in with those who believe it is improper for a government agency to aid illegal immigrants, and it was quite proper to threaten to call on ICE to raid the place. Personal threats were not proper.
