Trump's behavior on NFL is simply wrong

Once again our president has chosen to divide our nation. Since announcing his candidacy and continuing into his presidency Donald Trump has gone out of his way to insult and marginalize Hispanics, the disabled, Muslims, blacks. and women. It appears this president believes that some of our citizens are more American than others, and that the constitution applies only to a select few.

In his latest assault upon American ideals our president has called for the firing of any player who exercises their first amendment right to peaceful protest. Not only that, he began this assault by going to Alabama and referring to a group of African Americans protesters as SOBs. He then turns around and says he's not a racist. It looks like a duck and walks like a duck, Mr. President. Don't tell me it's a chicken.

Many people take exception with the form of protest Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players have chosen. These people are as entitled to their opinions as the players doing the protesting. This is a basic cornerstone of our democracy. As Evelyn Beatrice Hall famously said "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

This president has shown a total disregard for our laws, our constitution and our way of life. It is well past time for all of us who embrace an America of freedom and diversity to stand up and say "This is wrong!" This is our duty as Americans.
