'So blessed to call Barrington home'

A year ago, my husband Daryl Dishong had an emergency at our home.

Our son Matt, visiting from California and who is a Wilderness First Responder, immediately began lifesaving measures while I called 911. A professional team of firefighters, police, paramedics and backup personnel arrived moments later.

The first officer there, Officer Byrne, jumped in to help my son perform CPR; moments later the Barrington fire and EMT's went to work. They were a team on a mission. the lead EMT spoke with my husband's cardiologist at Mayo Clinic, as my husband was under treatment there for Light Chain Amyloidosis.

Sadly, my husband passed away. Each member of the emergency response team was so gentle and kind to us in our state of shock. It was a day we will never forget and that has played over again in our hearts as we lost a dearly beloved spouse, father and friend to many.

We have lived in Barrington for 30 years. We love our town. Our village president, Karen Darch, reached out personally to offer condolences. Years ago Karen was my president in Barrington Junior Women's Club and my husband served on the Barrington Village Strategic Planning Committee.

Our parish, St. Anne, was patient, loving and kind and so giving of their time. Fathers Britto Berchmans and Wayne Priest so lovingly and thoughtfully concelebrated an eloquent and memorable funeral Mass. Father Britto's homily will not soon be forgotten.

Family and friends came in from across the states and around the globe. Our Eastwood Neighborhood friends were amazing, loving and supportive - from organizing a meal train and taking people to the airport, to stopping by with flowers and cards, offering prayers or a hand to hold.

Our dear friends, Bruce and Kathy Wahlborg, made sure we were surrounded by love and friendship. Jack and Betsy Corcoran showed us unconditional, unforgettable love.

The doctors at Northwest Community Hospital, Cyndi Zurawski of Barrington Print and Copy and Ben Mahoney of BMP Productions who made sure my husband was remembered on paper and on screen. There are not words to convey what you both did to capture Daryl's life. Merchants, shops and restaurants sent cards, letters, meals and flowers.

It is rare to find a community that knows your name, your children's names, the baseball and soccer teams they played on and or that were coached by my husband ... The many retreats through church, the neighborhood block parties, the Fourth of July parades and Brat Tent summers.

Barrington is an unforgettable place to set your roots down, become part of its very alive fabric and blessed to call home.
