'94 percent' oppose drug treatment center
The proposal to repurpose a facility that is literally downtown, across from a community center, near a day care center and in a rural village of less than 6,000 residents into a for-profit drug treatment facility is not viewed favorably by many of Elburn residents I've spoken with.
To understand what the community was saying regarding this proposal, I performed my own statistical sampling. The data set was from www.kanecountytreasurer.org: all homes bearing the street name "Morrill Lane" in Elburn, the street on which I live.
Out of the 17 homes in that complete data set, 16 co-signed a simple statement which reads in part, "We … do unequivocally oppose the special use application by Illinois Holistic Addiction Treatment Center."
I don't think any reasonable, informed resident of Elburn could in good conscious argue against the need for, or services of such a facility. However, if this sampling, 94 percent against the proposal, is representative of the broader population, a solid majority do not want that facility in the form or location as being presented now.
I expect that the board has done its due diligence and has received similar feedback.
