Some moral standards written in pencil

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, 20-plus Texas Republican senators and congressmen voted against federal aid to help New Jersey recover under the guise of excess spending. I guess the true believers' (otherwise known as the Tea Party) commitment sort of stops at the high water mark on THEIR living room wall.

Rep. King of New York, a Republican conservative (even though expressed in a rather snarky way), said that he would vote for aid to Texas. It seems that the moral standards of some steadfast conservative Republicans are written in pencil and kept in a loose-leaf notebook. The pencils have heavy-duty erasers on them of course.

It is rather startling how flexible your moral commitment can be about federal spending when it is YOU dialing 911!
