Sidewalk to Nowhere

Bridge to nowhere? We have one here in Illinois too. Ours is a cheap one because it is only a Sidewalk to Nowhere. Crossing the Jane Addams on Roselle Road is a beautiful bridge with a sidewalk on the West end starting on the south at the eastbound exit ramp and stopping at the end of the bridge on the north end.

For months, I waited for the sidewalk to be completed connecting Hillcrest Boulevard with Central Road, but now that the area between them has been landscaped, I guess there are no plans for completing it. Probably not many walkers take this route anyway, but it prevents those living on the south side of the Jane Addams from being able to access the Cook County Forest Preserve north of the Jane Addams. And there is no sidewalk on the east end of bridge.

Speaking of Cook County, I understand from the tollway people that Cook County (er. we) will be building the westbound Jane Addams entrance from Roselle Road. Don't know why they would pick up the tab unless they would share the toll receipts or maybe the sugar tax would pay for it. This entrance was originally part of the expansion to be completed in 2016 and is obviously eight months behind schedule and other than a little work by ComEd nothing seems to be happening.

We use the Jane Addams to Rockford often, and it would sure be nice to add that entrance to the Roselle Road exit to reduce our commute.
