Reinventing the wheel on county cop patrol

I am responding to the article written on utilizing municipal police to patrol unincorporated areas of DuPage County.

This is a matter that has been looked into on numerous occasions in the past with the outcome of not being cost effective. With the county tightening their belt on spending, I would like to know who will pay for this study to be completed. Maybe board members Grasso and Fichtner could pay for any expenses or time spent looking into a matter which will have the same end results.

On another note, the DuPage County Board has not tightened their spending belts when it benefits them. With pension reform laws, newer board members are not eligible for a pension. The problem lays with older members who are enrolled in the pension system because by law, they are eligible with putting 20 hours a week into their part time position with the county.

It's unnecessary studies like this that board members can conduct to achieve their 20 hours for the week. Most (not all) board members currently hold full time employment elsewhere, or have their own businesses/practices that average within six figures for salaries.

Please tell me why the board members who are eligible for a pension cannot trim their weekly hours under 20 to withdrawal from the pension system as other counties in Illinois have. That seems to be cost effective and no study would need to be completed on this task.

Please do not waste anymore time trying to reinvent the wheel on a subject that you already know the answer on.
