Of course, health care should be a right
Mark Bodett writes that for health care to be a right, providers (doctors) would be compelled to provide their services for free. I don't know how that leap in logic can be made.
Access to a public education is a right in this country yet teachers aren't compelled to provider their services for free. Everyone has access to the services for public safety (law enforcement) but we don't require police to provide their services for free.
In my experience, the majority of people believe access to health care should be a right. The challenge is to figure out how to afford it. Medicare is provided to all people over 65 and certain other groups that qualify. It is a right. Doctors are compensated for caring for Medicare patients.
Mr. Bodett may have other reasons to believe that health care isn't a right but the argument he offers doesn't add up.
