Admit Carillon Tower was a mistake

The Naperville Riverwalk Commission says it will cost $3 million to maintain the corroding and cracking Carillon Tower just as is, while it will cost $660,000 to take it down now.

It also said the tower is last on the list of priorities to Riverwalk users. I'm sure the Naperville City Council would find this is true with the rest of their constituents as well.

We've already thrown too much bad money at this white elephant, which was never supposed to be taxpayer supported. The responsible thing is to bite the bullet, admit it was a mistake, and take it down now.

What will be worse for the city's "reputation" - maintaining a mistake for everyone to keep looking at, or getting rid of it?
