100-foot-wide anihilation of trees in Elgin

NICOR's recent clear-cutting on their in-holding parcel in Burnidge Forest Preserve just west of Elgin is incomprehensible. This wasn't just an access path they cleared - this was a 100-foot wide annihilation of every single plant, bush and tree down to bare earth.

This area has been a forest since I was a kid some 40 years ago. Why couldn't they have left any of the ancient hardwood trees - oaks, hickorys, etc. The thoughtlessness and inconsideration of this is shocking. I understand it's their property but when you own a large parcel of land bordered on three sides by a forest preserve, where you won't be building anything, you have some obligation of land stewardship that's assumed.

This just reeks of corporate arrogance - what a slap in the face to the Kane County Forest Preserve and the people of Kane County. Apparently, NICOR has planned to cut down more trees. I urge you to please contact NICOR to stop this.
