- Thirteen members of the Choral-Aires Chorus recently showed support for chorus members, families and friends battling breast cancer by participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Lombard. The chorus, based in Elmhurst, led all other community teams in fundraising efforts, raising more than $3,000 to fight breast cancer. Lindsey Herza

- Since 1909 when W.D. Boyce brought scouting to America, the guiding principles of the Boy Scouts of America has remained the same; preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Deicke Scout Shop, which is operated by the Boy Scouts of America Three Fires Council, supports the mission of scouting through its large inventory of uniforms, camping equipment, achievement recognitions and more. Plus, the shop serves as a resource center for information and registration of upcoming group outings and activities of the Three Fires Council. In 2010, 357 Eagle Scouts, 16,304 Cub Scouts, 6,574 Boy Scouts, 708 Venturers, and 1,547 Explorers were registered members; plus the Council is proud to serve one of the largest special needs packs in the country. Deicke Scout Shop, which is located at 155 West Roosevelt Road has become a regional destination, bringing scouting families from all over the western suburbs to West Chicago. Krista Coltrin
- 14-year old Elisa Maguigad of Downers Grove will share stage time with elite dancers from the world famous Moscow Ballet in a Dec. 10 performance of "The Great Russian Nutcracker" at the Rosemont Theatre. This is the fifth year the talented dancer has been asked to perform with the Moscow Ballet.
- Nearly 500 residents of Lombard's International Village Apartments celebrated the grand opening of the property's newly renovated clubhouse at a June 29 event hosted by owners F&F Realty. The Club IV Kick Off Celebration featured a barbeque with food from Glen Ellyn's Glen Prairie Fine Food & Drink, a band, face painter, caricature artist, fire hula hooper, plus a long list of raffles and other giveaways. The new 13,000-square-foot clubhouse includes a beautiful party room that residents can rent for private events, a kids play room, a business center with computers and WiFi, and a wide variety of recreation options such as indoor and outdoor pools, group fitness studio, exercise equipment, tennis, volleyball, ping pong, billiards and more. - Whole Foods presented a check for $10,348.92 to People's Resource Center on Valentine's Day at Whole Foods, 151 Rice Lake Square, Wheaton. Theresa's check-out lane alone was responsible for raising several thousand dollars. - William White explains to Daniel Hoff, Dawn Mattson and Linda Mattson how the VetDog program has enhanced his life. William has had his Labrador Retriever VetDog, Rudy, for a few years. Rudy helps him swim and get out of the pool and with everyday activities. William lost his arm and leg while serving as a Sergeant in the Marines.
