How to get a free 7-Eleven Slurpee today

It's July 11, which means it's free Slurpee day at 7-Eleven.

The convenience store chain is celebrating its 91st birthday today by giving away free Slurpees. To get one, just go to any 7-Eleven between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and help yourself to a free small Slurpee.

Slurpee flavors include popular choices like blue raspberry, piƱa colada and wild cherry, as well as a new recipe this year: Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries. The cereal-flavored Slurpee will be available for a limited time starting today.

It's really easy to get the sweet drink. No purchase or coupon are required.

But be prepared to wait in line. The company says that it expects to give away more than 9 million free Slurpees today in 7-Eleven locations in the U.S. and beyond. The chain has roughly 66,000 locations in 17 countries, including 11,800 in the United States and Canada.

"Free Slurpee Day may be the most anticipated day of the year for millions of 7-Eleven customers and new customers alike," said Raj Kapoor, a 7-Eleven senior vice president in a statement. "7-Eleven Day is a celebration, not only of our birthday, but more importantly, of our customers."

7-Eleven launched the Slurpee in 1966, when, according to company lore, an employee partially froze some sodas to the point of slush. It has been celebrating Free Slurpee Day on July 11 since 2002.
