Lakeshore Recycling receives safety award

Lakeshore Recycling Systems, based in Morton Grove, has been awarded the 2018 Overall Safety Award from the Solid Waste Association of North America.

LRS' Live Safety initiative demonstrated the LRS safety culture, differentiating LRS as the only waste hauler recognized in this category. The company also was recognized by SWANA for the second year in a row for the Biggest Safety Improvement Award in the technical division of communication, education and marketing.

"SWANA's Safety Awards program highlights top companies, agencies and facilities who have made excellence in safety attainable through creative strategies and overall commitment," said David Biderman, SWANA's Executive Director and CEO.

Award winners will be honored at a luncheon on August 22 at WASTECON® 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Live Safety program focuses on safety education and outreach to all 800 LRS employees, their families, friends and the broader communities and neighborhoods LRS services. Live Safety encourages a safety-first mindset whether at home, work or in recreational activities.

The waste industry continues to be one of the most dangerous, so increasing safety education and outreach is a core company value we practice daily," said LRS Chief Executive Officer Alan T. Handley.
