Capital Grille taking over Joe's Crab Shack location in Schaumburg

Steak and seafood restaurant will operate out of a new building in Schaumburg

The Capital Grille steak and seafood restaurant will replace the long-vacant Joe's Crab Shack as the first eatery at Schaumburg's eastern gateway.

An entirely new 9,656-square-foot building will be constructed at Golf Road and McConnor Parkway after the Joe's that sits there today is demolished. The Capital Grille is aiming for a spring 2019 opening, said Schaumburg Community Development Director Julie Fitzgerald.

The new restaurant is part of a national chain of 58 locations, including Rosemont, Lombard and downtown Chicago.

The Schaumburg location will be open daily and is expected to employ about 65 full- and part-time workers, with 38 to 40 on shift at any one time.

Just west of that site, work has already begun on a new City Works restaurant in front of the Hyatt Regency Schaumburg. It will replace the former Living Room restaurant torn down earlier this month.

Three other restaurants are also hoped to be built in front of the Hyatt once the stormwater detention basins along Golf Road are replaced with underground detention. So far, no potential restaurants have laid claim to these spots, Fitzgerald said.
