Starbucks to open in Carpentersville Walmart outlot

Starbucks has been confirmed as the next national retailer to occupy space in an outlot of Carpentersville's Walmart Supercenter.

The coffeehouse is expected to open this fall in the south end of a multi-tenant building on Route 25, said Patrick Burke, the village's economic development director. The 2,300-square-foot tenant space includes a drive-through lane.

"Starbucks has been something we repeatedly hear people would like to see, especially on the east side," Burke said. "We're glad it's happening."

Village officials have indicated their desire for a coffee shop in the 10,000-square-foot building since development plans were approved in January 2017. Plans for the new Starbucks were confirmed Tuesday, Burke said.

The outlot building also contains an Athletico Physical Therapy center, which opened in June, and a Wing Stop fast-casual restaurant that is expected to begin operating in early June, he said. Plans for the remaining available tenant space have not been determined.

The property is being developed by the Besinger family, who own the Meadowdale Shopping Center. They also own a second outlot facing Route 25 that has yet to be developed.

Walmart has generated traffic and spurred economic activity on the village's east side since the superstore opened in June 2016, officials said. O'Reilly Auto Parts also constructed a new automotive store that opened this past spring on an outlot facing Lake Marian Road.

Village President John Skillman said he believes the Starbucks will contribute to that success and help secure more new businesses. "It's a great addition to the Route 25 corridor," he said.
