July 29: Fourth annual Ride for Hope, for ovarian cancer awareness. Our mission is to spread awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and to help improve the quality of life for women battling this silent disease. Aug. 11: Second annual Chris Patterson Memorial Foundation Motorcycle Ride. Batavia VFW, 645 S River St. Registration, $25 rider, $20 passenger, 8 a.m. Kickstands up, 10:30 a.m. Specialist Christopher Patterson, a 2009 graduate of West Aurora High School, gave his life in service to our country while serving with the Indiana National Guard in Afghanistan, Jan. 6, 2012. The ride will be traveling Patterson's last ride. This will be an approximately 50-mile ride traveling past the funeral home on Route 31, through his hometown, North Aurora, to West Aurora High School, where the Blackhawk Marching Band will play "Roll On" as the ride passes. Chris had a great love of the performing arts. He was an actor, a singer and a musician performing with various groups. The Chris Patterson Memorial Foundation will split proceeds evenly between the Freedom Farm for Vets in Wadsworth and the Performing Arts at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Batavia. Breakfast will be provided by the VFW and barbecue lunch after the ride is available for purchase.
