Komatsu America moving headquarters from Rolling Meadows to Chicago

Komatsu America Corp., a global heavy equipment manufacturer, plans to move the company headquarters from Rolling Meadows to Chicago in two years. The business will move from 1701 Golf Road to a new site at Triangle Plaza, 8770 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.

Company leaders said the new office will feature an open floor plan and better access to O'Hare International Airport. A Chicago location will help attract potential employees who live in the city and students studying at Chicago-area universities, Komatsu American CEO Rod Schrader said in a statement.

"There's something for everyone in this move," Schrader said. He added the move will "help Komatsu remain competitive and attractive to prospective employees."

About 300 people work at the Rolling Meadows headquarters and they all will move to the Chicago office, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The move will also assist the company's efforts to break down team and "workstream silos," Schrader said.

Komatsu Ltd., parent company of Komatsu America, established a permanent presence in the U.S. in 1970 with the first headquarters in San Francisco, California.

Since then, Atlanta, Georgia, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Vernon Hills, and for the past 11 years, Rolling Meadows, have all served as U.S. headquarters cities.
