Funeral services planned for longtime Naperville bank executive

Those who knew Frank G. Slocumb, a longtime executive at BMO Harris Bank, knew they could count on him, his wife, Kay, said Thursday, two days after her husband lost a 6½-year battle to cancer.

She said Frank, 72, was steady and loyal, pointing to the numbers that he often brought up when giving speeches. Frank would say that he had one employer, for 36 years, and one wife, for 45 years, Kay said.

"He was a great businessman and mentor for people who worked with him. He was honest and straightforward," Kay said.

Frank died Tuesday at Edward Hospital in Naperville, the community where he and Kay raised their son, Jack, 31. Frank spent his career working in Naperville in the community bank industry.

He served as president of Harris Bank Naperville and before he retired was district executive of BMO Harris Bank in charge of community banks in the southern suburbs and Indiana, Kay said.

She said he was active with many community-based organizations. His many leadership roles included past board member and chairman of the board of trustees of Edward Hospital, advisory board for the Colbeth Clinic at the University of Illinois Medical Center, board member and past president of the Rotary Club of Naperville, board member of St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville and founding board member of the Naperville Parks Foundation.

Frank attended Oak Park and River Forest High School and graduated from Loyola University of Chicago in 1968. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army, where he served 27 months of active duty as a 1st lieutenant and later received an honorable discharge as captain.

He went on to receive his MBA at Northwestern University. While there, he met his wife. Among his many hobbies, Frank was an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending the theater and Chicago Symphony and spending time at his condo in Chicago. Most of all, Frank enjoyed traveling around the world with Kay and playing golf with Jack.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, and Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Frank's life will be celebrated with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Naperville. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
