Northwest Community Healthcare gets accreditation for cancer program

The Commission on Cancer, a program of the American College of Surgeons, has granted three-year accreditation with commendation status to the cancer program at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights.

Northwest Community officials say their cancer-related programs include prevention, early diagnosis, cancer staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, lifelong follow-up for recurrent disease and end-of-life care. Patients also have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, and genetic counseling.

The voluntary accreditation has been given to 1,500 cancer programs in the United States and Puerto Rico.
