Crystal Lake man appointed circuit judge

The state of Illinois Supreme Court has announced the appointment of Crystal Lake native David R. Gervais as the Circuit Judge of the Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit, at Large. The appointment is effective Feb. 5. Gervais will replace the Honorable Michael T. Caldwell, who is retiring from judicial office on Dec. 31.

Gervais has practiced law for 36-years in McHenry County, and is active in professional and community service at local, county and state levels. He has served as a Republican committeeman in Nunda and Algonquin Townships, with McHenry County Salvation Army Advisory Board, McHenry County Historical Society Board, McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission, Cary Park District as well as Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association and many other local civic organizations in diverse capacities.

"It has been my joy to serve the community with my legal practice and my civil involvement," Gervais said. "I am humbled by this appointment, and look forward to utilizing my experience and knowledge to support the fair and equitable administration of justice."

Since 1991, Gervais has provided legal services through his firm, Law Offices of David R. Gervais from his Veteran Point offices in Crystal Lake. His legal team currently includes Thomas J. Leahy, Kelly E. Vaclavek and Carl E. Metz III.

A graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, Gervais received his B.A. in Philosophy from Bucknell University, and is a graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School. He has been an active member of the McHenry County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association since 1982.

Married to Susan Gervais, he has three grown children, three grandchildren, three dogs and two cats. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, boatbuilding, sailing, gardening and beekeeping.
