Gallery Seven relocating to Lockport's Gaylord Building

The National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Heritage Corridor Convention & Visitors Bureau have entered into a partnership to give Gallery Seven a new home in the Gaylord Building Historic Site in Lockport.

Gallery Seven will occupy the second floor exhibition space within the Gaylord Building, giving artists exposure to the more than 50,000 visitors that enter the site each year. Though the second floor gallery will not be open to the public during Gallery Seven's relocation, a re-grand opening will be scheduled for early 2018.

Gallery Seven's arrival to the Gaylord Building comes as the building move ahead with development unLOCK: Merging Art and Industry in Downtown Lockport. unLOCK is a National Endowment for the Arts funded program that will increase the city's creative and commercial activity and advance local revitalization efforts by using art to galvanize the city's heritage.

The Gaylord Building, a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, played a vital role in the creation of the Illinois & Michigan Canal. A landmark since 1838, the limestone warehouse originally stored canal construction materials and later housed a variety of commercial ventures. Today the Gaylord Building is a national example of adaptive reuse where guests can learn about the heritage of the region, explore exhibition galleries, dine in the renowned Public Landing Restaurant, experience the interactive park at Lincoln Landing, or relax with a stroll or bike ride along the canal trail.
