Decorated bikes on display in downtown Libertyville

Donated bicycles, decorated by elementary and high school students and others, are on display in downtown Libertyville to help lure shoppers for the holiday season.

Nearly 30 businesses are participating in the "Bikes and MainStreet" public art event, which will run through Christmas. The bikes will be brought out of storage in March as part of Fine Arts Month in Libertyville.

The used, donated bikes have been decorated by students, shopkeepers, artists and others in keeping with the type of business where they are displayed. Designs range from simple to elaborate, organizers said.

Some of the decorated bikes will be displayed inside the shops, but mostly they will live outside - and taken inside at night.
