Schaumburg mulls sushi restaurant as Miller's Ale House readies to open
Schaumburg officials will consider approval of a proposed dine-in and carryout sushi restaurant on the west side of the village Tuesday, while a Miller's Ale House nears its opening in the Woodfield region.
The owner of Oishi Sushi in Willowbrook has proposed a second suburban location in the National Plaza Shopping Center at 325 S. Barrington Road in Schaumburg. The 2,800-square-foot space is between the Chase Bank and O'Reilly Auto Parts store in the 10-unit building anchored by a Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts and a Party City on either end.
Architect Ed Yung, who's designing the restaurant for the owner, estimated it could open within four to six months after approval.
He added the owner's plan is to operate the restaurant along the same lines as its original location at 6300 Kingery Highway, Suite 106 in Willowbrook's Hinsdale Lake Commons shopping center. There, it's hours are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Schaumburg site is being designed to seat about 66 customers and have carryout service like the Willowbrook location, Yung said.
The restaurant proposal is seeking a reduction in the number of required parking from 292 spaces to 279.
The village's zoning board of appeals unanimously recommended approval of the restaurant proposal earlier this month.
Meanwhile, the 7,200-square-foot Miller's Ale House approved last winter will soon open at 1300 N. Meacham Road, just west of the Woodfield Village Green shopping center. It's part of a three-lot development called Meacham Corners at the southwest corner of Meacham and Remington roads.
Schaumburg Economic Development Manager Matt Frank said Miller's is recruiting employees and awaits its final inspection and occupancy permit before it can open.
Last week, Chuy's Tex-Mex opened in the new Woodfield Gatherings outlot development in Woodfield Mall's parking lot along Golf Road.
