Holiday Inn Express proposed next to Cabela's

Hoffman Estates officials will consider approval of a 121-room Holiday Inn Express hotel between Cabela's and The Saddle Room restaurant at a special village board meeting Monday, Oct. 9.

The proposal would also break off the 3.2 acres the hotel would occupy from the nearly 30 acres Cabela's owns in the Prairie Stone Business Park that is also home to the Sears Centre Arena.

Though adding the Holiday Inn Express would mark a change from Cabela's original plans for the site at 5225 Prairie Stone Parkway, hotels have always been permitted uses in the business park, Hoffman Estates Senior Planner James Donahue said. The Chicago Marriott Northwest at 4800 Hoffman Blvd. is the only hotel currently within the business park, he added.

The four-story Holiday Inn Express proposed by Chicago-based GH of Hoffman Estates LLC would be southwest of Cabela's, on land originally planned by the store for outdoor dog kennels and horse corrals that never materialized, Donahue said.

The project would also remove 127 Cabela's parking spaces, but the 185,000-square-foot store is still considered to have plenty without them.

The Saddle Room's site to the southwest also once belonged to Cabela's, but was subdivided in 2012 for the restaurant.

The new hotel was unanimously recommended by the village's planning and zoning commission last month.

The village board's consideration of final approval will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 at village hall, 1900 Hassell Road.

If the hotel receives approval, developers hope to start building almost immediately and open by the end of 2018, Donahue said.
