Panasonic Healthcare becomes Energy Star partner

WOOD DALE - Panasonic Healthcare affirmed a corporate commitment to protect the environment by becoming an Energy Star partner.

The voluntary partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star program means that Panasonic Healthcare will continue to devote resources to designing products that help customers improve energy efficiency without compromising critical performance parameters associated with biological specimens, vaccines and other high value materials common to the life science industry.

Panasonic Healthcare has certified several high performance laboratory grade refrigeration products to the Energy Star requirements. Widely used to represent high quality and energy efficient products, the Energy Star testing and certification requirements have now been extended to products used in the scientific community. To earn the label, Energy Star products must be third-party certified based on testing in EPA-recognized laboratories. Prior to the development of the Energy Star laboratory grade refrigerators and freezers criteria, products have rarely been independently tested for comparative evaluation.

According to Hans Brok, president of Panasonic Healthcare Corporation of North America, Panasonic Healthcare has been a leader in developing Energy Star criteria and evaluation processes in service to the nation's scientific and laboratory research community.

"We encourage and welcome this collaboration with Energy Star. Now, for the first time, the scientific and laboratory equipment community can hold manufacturers accountable for information about critical performance based on independent oversight of manufacturer claims," said Brok. "This effort is a milestone for Panasonic Healthcare's Biomedical Business Unit, which celebrates fifty years of innovation in the life sciences and is known as being one of the most reliable, energy efficient, health care solutions providers in the world."

Panasonic Healthcare has now earned Energy Star certification for a range of high performance biomedical refrigerators and freezers that operate over a range of 10°C to -30°C, and plans are in place to continue to add to this partnership.
