DuPage Medical Group expands 3D mamography

DOWNERS GROVE - DuPage Medical Group, an independent, multi-specialty physician group with offices around the suburbs, has upgraded its imaging services by bringing 3-D mammography to its Tinley Park office at 17495 S. La Grange Road.

Breast tomosynthesis, or 3-D mammography, is significantly improved compared to 2D technology. Rather than condensing all tissue layers, 3-D mammography provides images of breast structures through individual "slices" of tissue in one millimeter layers. 3-D mammograms allow board-certified radiologists, sub-specialized in breast imaging, to review scans in more detail than ever before. This advanced technology makes breast cancer easier to detect, particularly in women with dense breast tissue and decreases the number of callbacks requiring additional imaging for patients.

"DMG was the first to bring 3-D mammography to the western suburbs in 2012. As we have expanded in the south suburbs, we wanted to provide that same level of care to our patients and are excited to offer this leading-edge technology," said DMG Chief Operating Officer South Region David Spaccarelli. "As part of our Integrated Oncology Program, we strive to provide the most advanced screening and early detection programs available."

DMG offers 3-D mammography in Bloomingdale, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Joliet, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville and Tinley Park.

DMG performed more than 50,000 mammograms in 2016, and recommends screening mammograms for women starting at age 40.
