Officials: Glenview's Flick pool closed again due to COVID-19
The Glenview Park District's Flick Aquatic Center, which had been closed since July 9 after workers tested positive for COVID-19, reopened for regular hours Wednesday morning - but then closed again just before noon, officials said.
The pool initially was closed after two lifeguards tested positive for COVID-19 last week, park district officials said. The aquatic center was closed and fully sanitized Friday, then sat empty until it reopened Wednesday.
However, park district officials said, three more lifeguards - who haven't been at the aquatic center since it was disinfected Friday - also tested positive for COVID-19, so the facility was closed again at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until further notice.
The park district is working with the Cook County Department of Public Health to conduct contact tracing for any potential exposures that may have occurred before the facility closed July 9. After a careful review of the information so far, the park district doesn't believe any members of the public have been in close contact with the five lifeguards, officials said.
The park district will be doing another full cleaning and sanitizing of the Flick Aquatic Center as a precaution, officials said, and they'll continue working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health for guidance. There have been 73 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Glenview from July 8 through Tuesday, Cook County public health officials reported.
Glenbrook South High School in Glenview suspended sports camps on Monday after officials learned at least one student who participated in the camps last week had tested positive.
"Through the implementation of our contact tracing protocol, we learned that other Glenbrook South students have also tested positive for COVID-19," a district news release issued Sunday evening said.
In the previous week, July 1-7, Glenview cases increased by 19 and there were no new deaths. Since the pandemic began, 641 people have tested positive in Glenview and 48 have died, health officials said.
