Husband of southern Illinois woman burned to death charged

O'FALLON, Ill. (AP) - Murder charges have been filed against the husband of a southern Illinois woman whose burning body was found inside an automobile.

In addition to first-degree murder, 36-year-old Andrew Montez McKissick was charged Wednesday with aggravated arson and battery by way of a flammable substance in the death of 35-year-old Sherry Billups of O'Fallon.

McKissick is jailed in Memphis, Tennessee where he was apprehended Tuesday by local police. He is awaiting extradition to Illinois.

O'Fallon director of public safety Eric Van Hook says police responding to a call of a vehicle fire Monday found Billups' burning body.

Court records show McKissick has served time in prison for a gun violation and for aggravated battery causing harm to a police officer.

Van Hook said the department had been called to the couple's residence for domestic issues on several occasions.
