Michigan boy, 6, named Ace Cares for Kids All-Star

GRAND BLANC, Mich. (AP) - A 6-year-old Michigan boy who learned to walk again after the removal of a spinal cord tumor has been named an Ace Cares for Kids All-Star.

The Oak Brook, Illinois-based Ace Hardware Foundation says Desmond Davis of Grand Blanc was surprised last week with the honor at his elementary school in suburban Flint.

Desmond will serve as a national ambassador for the foundation which raises awareness for work by Children's Miracle Network hospitals.

Desmond was 1 when the benign tumor was removed at Beaumont Children's Hospital in Royal Oak, near Detroit. With physical therapy he started learning how to crawl and walk again at age 2.

Duracell partners with the foundation which has raised more than $100 million for Children's Miracle Network hospitals over the past 27 years.
