U. of Illinois at Chicago professor bequeaths school $1M

CHICAGO (AP) - A popular art history professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago who died last year has left $1 million to the school where he taught for three decades.
UIC says in a news release that with the money bequeathed by Ross Edman to the school will establish a merit-based award for graduate-level art history students - allowing the school to recruit the "brightest and most qualified applicants to the program."
The release says the money comes from the estate of Edman and his longtime partner, Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law professor Jon Waltz, who died in 2004. The two also left a similar amount of money to the law school.
Art history doctoral student Leslie Wooden is the first recipient of the UIC award.
