Police shoot man outside bank branch in suburban Chicago

COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a south suburban Chicago police officer shot a man who drove a car into another officer in a busy commercial area.

The shooting happened Thursday night after Country Club Hills police were called about two men dragging another man into the ATM area of a Bank of America branch.

Police say arriving officers saw a car driving away from the bank and it struck one officer as they were trying to stop it. That is when police say the other officer fired at the car, hitting the driver. Information on the wounded man's condition wasn't immediately released.

The bank branch is near an Interstate 57 interchange with a Walmart store and several restaurants nearby.

The shooting is being investigated by Illinois State Police.
